Marietta, GA The Cobb Chapter of the Libertarian Party of Georgia met in an emergency session on Monday, July 19, to unanimously condemn the pay raise passed by Congress on Thursday. The House voted 276-147 to give representatives and senators a 3.4% pay increase. The vote received bi-partisan support and will take effect in January.
I am appalled at the decision by our federally elected officials to vote themselves a raise, said Dale Ritchey, 6th District Representative of the Libertarian Party of Georgia. Congress has once again proven that they are out of touch with the American taxpayer.
I am especially disappointed in Representatives Isakson and Barr, who are supposed to represent the interests of Cobb County citizens, said Ritchey. Republicans claim to be for less government and lower taxes, but that is obviously nothing more than lip service. Rep. Isakson and Rep. Barr both supported the pay raise.
The tax burden on the average American is at the highest rate ever, and the national debt is over $5.5 trillion and continues to rise. All this during one of the greatest economic expansions of the twentieth century! exclaimed Ritchey. This justifies a raise?
As long as Democrats and Republicans remain in power, wasteful government spending will continue. The Libertarian Party intends to change that. We advocate a strictly limited federal government which will allow working families to keep more of their own hard-earned money.
The Libertarian Party is the fastest growing political party in the nation and has quadrupled its membership since 1995.
